Rajasthan Royals' Australian all-rounder Shane Watson will miss his team's opening IPL game against Delhi Daredevils to be played at the Feroze Shah Kotla here on Saturday.
It is learnt that Watson will not be able to reach here before the match would only be available from the second game onwards.
Meanwhile, the Royals had a two-and-a-half hour training session at the Kotla here today. Batting mainstay Rahul Dravid and Ajinkya Rahane had a decent hit in the middle.
West Indian bowling all-rounder Kevin Cooper looked like a doubtful starter for the first game as he was seen with his right knee wrapped with ice pack.
According to team sources, young Kerala glovesman Sanju Samson is set to make his IPL debut while the pace attack is likely to comprise Indian pacer S Sreesanth and newly acquired West Indian Fidel Edwards.
Stuart Binny will be one of the all-rounders providing balance to the side.

Kolkata Knight Riders started their title defence on a confident note as they comfortably defeated Delhi Daredevils by six wickets in the opening encounter of the sixth edition of Indian Premier League in Kolkata, on Wednesday.
Mystery spinner Sunil Narine with brilliant figures of 4/13 kept Daredevils under tight leash while skipper Gautam Gambhir’s useful 42 kept the defending champions’ run-chase on track.
Ashish Nehra gave an early breakthrough removing Manvinder Bisla (4) but skipper Gambhir and elder statesman Kallis added 47 runs for the second wicket before the South African veteran was holed out in the deep as he failed to punish a rank long-hop from left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem. Mystery spinner Narine, who was instrumental in KKR’s last year triumph last season, came to haunt once again when he dismissed the dangerman Warner (21) as couldn’t negotiate the turn and bounce giving Kallis the easiest of catch at first slip. The dismissal was enough to bring the run-rate down as Jayawardene waged a lone battle with wickets falling at the other end at regular intervals. Gambhir got the innings off to a flying start as he slashed Irfan Pathan over point for a boundary and then lofted the bowler over long-on for a six.
Once Kallis was gone, Gambhir-Tiwary duo added another 41 runs before a quicker one from Johan Botha [ Images ] caught the left-hander on the wrong-foot. Gambhir’s 42 came off 29 balls with five fours and a six.

Eyeing a repeat of their success last season, Kolkata will open their title defence with a clash against a depleted Delhi in the Indian T20 League in Kolkata. Expectations will be high from the home side as they would aim to become only second team to win back-to-back titles. Only Chennai have won consecutive trophies (2010 and 2011).

For Delhi, who are yet to win the title, it would be a season to make amends as they look at life without English swashbuckler Kevin Pietersen who has been ruled out for the entire tournament due to a knee injury. Delhi will also miss out on explosive Kiwi batsman Jesse Ryder who was to begin his $260,000 contract before a brutal assault in a Christchurch bar left him hospitalised.

Last season's Purple cap holder, Morne Morkel (25 wickets), who bowled Titans to a semis place in the Ram Slam T20 Challenge in the South Africa domestic cricket, will also miss out on the opener. And if that was not enough, Virender Sehwag is also a doubtful starter for the tournament-opener as he is down with back spasm.

Skipper Mahela Jayawardene is coming from an injury lay-off and he too would look to get into the groove sooner while David Warner has not been in good form in recent times. In such a scenario, it's the exuberance of U-19 winning skipper Unmukt Chand, who has two successive centuries for Delhi in the just concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, that would come to fore. West Indian big hitterAndre Russell will look to play the role of a finisher.

Till Morkel joins the side, the pressure would be on the Indian trio of Ashish NehraUmesh Yadavand Irfan Pathan. That Yadav and Pathan are coming back after injuries would be a point of concern. In the sixth season, nine teams will battle it out in a total of 76 matches, over a period of seven weeks with summit clash slated for May 26.

Having recovered from jaundice, Kolkata skipper Gautam Gambhir will be eager to start on a winning note under conditions best suited to them. It would be an important season for the India opener, who went through a rough patch and was discarded for the four-Test Australia series. The left-hander would be keen to be back among runs. Among the foreign recruits, Kolkata will miss Brendon McCullum, who is down with a hamstring problem while Aussie pacer James Pattinson is going through a rest period advised by the Australian board.

Jacques Kallis will lend experience to the middle order, while the home grown players of Laxmi Ratan Shukla, Manoj TiwaryManvinder Bisla and Debabrata Das would also come in handy.

West Indian mystery spinner Sunil Narine, the second leading wicket-taker behind Morkel with 24 scalps, was instrumental in Kolkata's success last season. Kolkata will now hope to unleash another 'mystery' spinner in Lankan offie Sachitra Senanayake in the upcoming season. Besides Narine and Senanayake, the team also has Indian left-arm spinner Iqbal Abdulla, who though would face competition for a place in the XI.

Kolkata also have a balanced pace-spin attack. Brett Lee, who will double up as a bowling mentor in absence of Wasim Akram, will lead the pace attack. Laxmipathy Balaji, who was most economical last season, will add variety to the attack along with the part-timers in Rajat Bhatia and Shukla.
